So, Asian Beauty Blog has been around for just about 2 years, and it was launched with the first Asian smoky eye video on youtube - mine. Okay, so these days I don't even wear that much makeup anymore, but that video is seriously outdated. Time we did a new one, right? So here's our new challenge this month, as proposed by me: I want to see your best dramatic smoky eye, and not only that, I want to see it on Youtube as a tutorial.
Edited 31 Jan. 2009 to add: THIS IS A VIDEO TUTORIAL CONTEST. Posting up pictures of your pretty self is not enough. I want this contest to actually contribute something useful, and not just end up as a beauty contest, since "how do I do an Asian smoky eye?!" is such a common question. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to this, and I want to see what *you* come up with, and *how* you do it. Ok? Ok.
Challenge ends February 14th, 2009. Again, like last time, the winner is determined by whoever has the highest rep score on their entries by that date. And the prize? (Ooh, this is a good 'un!)
... an Italian Badger travel brush set. I have a set of italian badger brushes at home, and these are AWESOME brushes, for serious.
I always thought the problem with my Asian smoky eye video was that because there is such a huge range of eyeshapes and variations, there's no one-size fits all solution to doing a smoky eye for Asians. So I encourage you all to experiment and find what works for you, and to share what you figure out and learn with the rest of the world via youtube! Yeah yeah yeah, I know - it's more trouble than the Ulzzang challenge, where all you had to do was post pictures of yourselves looking cute. But hey, you gotta WORK for this.
It doesn't need to be an elaborately edited video with music and subtitles, but it should be clearly show the steps on how you achieve your look and what you used. And to make it valentines day themed... throw in your favorite ”get it on” song. I don't want to see a 'subtle' smoky eye. I don't want to see a 'day time' or 'office appropriate' smoky eye. I want to see a full-on, ”I'm going to the club tonight and I'm gonna get me a man, RAWR!” kind of smoky eye.
BE FIERCE LADIES. BE FIERCE.As for me, my inspirations for a dramatic smoky eye:
... screen caps from a Russian music video, ”Opium” by Serebro. (One of my favorite songs, seriously.
(ext) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtfEC55vFkg) I like watching Russian music videos because many Russian women have somewhat Asian features, such as small eye creases, and it helps me to see how they do their own makeup. That, and I think if I watch enough music videos, I too can become a Russian pop star.
So while I might not have their bone structure... or piles of money... or singing talent... I can have their smoky eye.
(Crappy, off-colored pictures from my webcam follow. Tomorrow I'll post up a tutorial video on youtube + some decent pictures taken in not-sucky lighting with a non-sucky camera. It's hard to find any sort of decent lighting at 4AM.)
Now go earn that brush set!
(For the record - I'm not entering in this challenge, I'm just sort of sponsoring it.)
