    Hello Girls!

I just started a new way of eating. I know this sounds crazy, but I've been eating North-American food, and I think it's been a disaster for my looks and body. Before, I had a bit of a paunch belly. It turned out I was intolerant to refined sugar, wheat, and diary, which are also co-incidentally not very common in the Asian diet. My naturopath also recommended that I eat more of my vegetables cooked (us Chinese don't eat any of our vegetables raw). Guess what? My stomach has flattened out.

Anybody else with a similar experience?

I agree a lot with you. With my "asian daily eating", I never really experienced a belly pooch at first. It was actually when i started eating my school lunch and went on a hawaii cruise with american food buffet (where i gained 5 lbs in a week) that I saw major changes in my body *shudders* I stopped eating all the american food and back to my rice bowl at night with tofu and some pieces of meat and i lost my 5 lbs extremely quickly--like within 2 weeks just by going back to my normal eating habits. (smaller portions and less butter, less oil, more veggies, etc)

crazy how culture differences in eating affect health that quickly and drastically!!!

I have to agree..american/european/mediterrarean food is kill for me. My mom makes bengali food with lots of spice and stuff. I'll eat soo much at home and main thing is rice but nothing happens. Our veggies are ALWAYS cooked, if they're raw no one eats it till it's cooked. At college dorm food, even when I tried to eat healthy made me gain weight =/

wow i'm so glad i'm not the only one with similar experience! i had been on a daily diet of lots of dairy and salads for about 10 years until a trustworthy herbalist told me "stop, cos your body's suffering big time". i literally had to go on a DETOX program, and went back to a chinese diet of rice, cooked vegetables (with garlic or ginger), a little meat, and my stomach FLATTENED OUT. it's amazing, but i truly believe u should only eat what your DNA is meant to digest!

OMG i went on hol and cleaned out their buffet section. THE food was good and i was having about 45949548593 courses a night. IT was a 5star man how cud i say no!!! it was all spags, chinese food, vietno food, desserts everything u dream of! Made me the heaviest i have ever been. But when i got back home the weight seemed to drop off wen i munched mummys cooking. Mind you, i've made a mental effort to eatsmaller portions. That has worked wonders for me!

dieting at my house is not possible. there will always be junk food around. we have one family member who is addicted to junk food and that one person is my older brother. all he has been eating lately is junk food that is why he has a very big belly pooch. he will never stop eating junk food. even if we tell him to stop, he won't. he doesn't care about his health. he gets money from the government for food. every month, when he gets that money, all he has ever been buying is junk food. there is so many junk food in the house. i don't want to eat it but in order for it not to go bad, i have to eat some just to get rid of it. his junk food habits will never stop.

I can't get away from Asian diets, and still my weight fluctuates all over the place. XD;; But I agree with all you gals. When I can stay home and cook for myself (or better, when mommy cooks for me :3), my weight drops. When my boyfriend takes me out to eat, or cooks for me (darling, please don't tell me a traditional Korean diet really contains corn syrup and spam -__-;;;), my weight rockets upward. *sigh* It's still sweet of him, though.

And of course, I'm in Taiwan now, where there are food stalls every two steps!! ...I think I'm going to have to buy new pants soon.

since moving back home after college, all i eat is asian foods, and i am still poochy! i try not to eat too much rice either cuz i don't like it =.=''. i think i get chubbs just breathing and drinking water. its so sad. at school there was a month when i was hardcore exercising 2 hrs a day, 4x a week, and i managed to shave off 5 lbs, but it all came back when i came home, and was sedentary for a week. poopers! what do u guys snack on? my mom likes to eat sweets and we always have bakery items around, strudel, danish, coffee cake, etc.. hums, it always finds my tummy too..
